Do I Look A Little Stressed?

not to mention my eyes feel like two pee holes in a snow bank!

I survived my first day of Quality Assurance, but I'm not so sure I did that great a job at it.  I was under the impression that any and all errors were to be graded, so I overdid it on the first one, and the rest of the day I probably under did it.   Oh well, it's a learning process, right? I think I instant messaged my QA supervisor more than I needed to, bless her, she was very sweet and encouraging.

If it were up to me, every DSM-IV diagnoses would be capitalized, it drives me nuts they are not, especially when grouped in a diagnosis format, i.e., Axis I, Axis II, Axis III, blah...blah.  Ugh!

Some dictators want them all lower case (so says the AAMT Book of Style), which doesn't even look right, and some want them all Capitalized, it's exhausting.  One lady wants the word "Claimant" capitalized throughout the entire report.  I think on one MT's report, I replaced this 29 times.  I think I suffered more eye strain that normal, because I was constantly looking at the screen all day long, and it's no wonder my head hurts!

I gotta go the store, (I absolutely hate this task) cause come tomorrow I might not have a car again for God knows how long, depending.  Yes, after spending 11 hundred bucks to put a motor in, it start missing?...I was p'od, and Walter says he will come back tomorrow to get it and drive it out to the boys who put the motor in and say, "Smell it too, and hear the miss?"  Like I said, if a cherry motor has only 40 thousand miles on it, it is NOT going to stink like burnt crayon (it's done that since it came home) or have a miss in the motor...Do I have stupid written across my forehead or something? ha! Don't be messin' with a hillbilly gal.   She'll whoop up on ya! and while I'm at it, I'm stopping off at the drug store for a bottle of wine to soothe my whine!

and how was yuns day? ya know, in the South, y'all is singular, all y'all is plural but in hillbilly ya'll is yuns!

Did you guys watch tonight's edition of Hoarders on A & E Channel? It was about two middle-aged women named Tara and Betty.

Tara has been reported to her landlord and needs to clean out her apartment or she'll be homeless. She's an obsessive collector, favoring things like McDonald's Happy Meal toys, nativity scenes, snow globes and hundreds of teddy bears.  Tara must finally get control of her hoarding and part with most of the clutter in her home or face eviction.

In Tara's case, she said what started out as collecting led to boxes filled with stuff, and her biggest problem was learning to organize her things. By the show's end, she had made very little progress and had much left to do; however it seemed promising that she would still commit herself to the progress.

When fire crews responded to a small fire at Betty's house, they discovered her sick husband living in filth, as they couldn't even get a gurney in the house. Adult Protective Services removed him from the home because of his medical condition.  He had been an alcoholic all his life, and schizophrenic on top of his medical concerns.  They also had a grown schizophrenic daughter living in the home, who was also hoarding, and had three whole rooms upstairs filled with junk.  For the last two months Betty and her husband have been staying in a hotel as their house was inhabitable--but funds were quickly running out. If Betty doesn't clean up her home and her yard, he may never be able to live in the home again.

What I found truly sad about this show was  the fact that Betty's daughters thought she chose "things" over them, one daughter sick with leukemia, and another daughter made the heartwrenching choice to walk out of her mother's life realizing that she could not help her.  I think Betty's position pretty much came through with her demeanor about the stuff, stating, "You are not here, only visitors for a short time, and the stuff is; obviously she finds solace in having things instead of people in her life, she was lonely.   She stated at one point, "I am a rescuer of stuff."  I don't think Betty will continue to make any real progress, however by the end of the show she had one room free of stuff and the yard was fairly well cleaned up.  It said at the end of the show that her husband was able to return home.

it's a sad, horrible thing, this hoarding addiction.  I think deep down we could all be hoarders of more junk than we need, I know I got more than I need, and constantly feel the need to clean out and throw out the more I watch this series!

Movin' On Up...

to the East Side...to a deluxe apartment in the sky...Go ahead sing it! surely you guys remember this, right? Who didn't love George & Weezy?! and here's your challenge, bloggers, without looking it up.  Do you remember the name of the cantankerous maid?

Anyway I got a phone call Friday from work by a lady that I was close to, which surprised me, because she is no longer typing medical reports due to physical problems and she moved into another section of the transcription business when our small company merged with a larger transcription company. I went on to work from home, and so we haven't seen each other since the company Christmas dinner last year.

She calls me and asks if I might be interested in joining the QCH. What is the QCH? The Quality Control Hub...yes, instead of typing reports, I will be doing my part in Quality Assurance. My job will be to draw up other medical transcriptionist's reports and make any errors, grade their performance, and the re-upload the reports. In our company, we have a 3-tier QA system, which means each report goes through 3 sets of Quality Assurance personnel, before it gets shipped off to the physician.

While I am excited at this possibility of less typing, I am surprised that with this new responsibility comes no raise in paycheck? How does that not happen? I am concerned that protocol is new to me and very much involved, especially when grading other MT's (medical transcriptionists) work.

Monday should prove to be an interesting day, as I still don't have some the proper materials (like the AAMT Book of Style) I need, or the TurboFlow QA program downloaded on my computer to get this new job done?!

Update: The support tech and I got the QA Program on here, we'll see if it works tomorrow bright and early!

*the music jazz box has been taken down*

and by the way, the maid's name was Florence!

Life Lately in Urbappalachia...

Photobucket

It's been a blur of days, weeks, and drama-filled months here. If one kid isn't blowing up, it's another. I swear I was watching and reading about Venus Fly Traps and I thought to myself...I wonder if I could grow one big enough to feed family members to? After all they digest, leave no trace, it's perfect, right?! ... Yup, sometimes I wished I lived on another planet or was just crazy enough not to care at all, much less work...

Speaking of work, I am now a member of the QHC club. Instead of typing all day, my job will be worse?!

Yes, I will be initiated into the world of Quality Hub Control in two days.

My Mission: Login in, bring up the motherboard of documents that I will QA'ing by other Medical Transcriptionists (there are over a thousand), listen to the dictator, proof the document, make the changes, ship it off to cyberspace, and grade the quality of work by the transcriptionists (not by the report per se overall but with each error they make, huh?)... [[EMOTICON:SHOCK1]] [[EMOTICON:STUNNED1]]

No longer will I be typing, I will be more stressed out, right? It is unnerving as there is so much to learn in proofing materials (some doctors want this, some want that?) and the grading error scale. I don't think my brain is prepared for what is going to happen come Monday morning.

Get Ready. Set. Launch. Let's hope I don't get lost in space!

Give me encouragement

and in trade I will give you this~

a few Testimonials of people who should have kept their traps shut?!

FIRST TESTIMONY:
I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked loudly,

'How much do you charge for a shampoo and a blow job?'

I turned around and walked back out and never went back. My husband didn't say a word...

He knew better.

SECOND TESTIMONY :
I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf balls.
I was unhappy with the women's type I had been using. After browsing for several minutes, I was approached by one of the good-looking gentlemen who works at the store.

He asked if he could help me.

Without thinking, I looked at him and said, 'I think I like playing with men's balls!'

THIRD TESTIMONY:
My sister and I were at the mall and passed by a store that sold a
variety of candy and nuts. As we were looking at the display case,
the boy behind the counter asked if we needed any help.

I replied, 'No, I'm just looking at your nuts.'

My sister started to laugh hysterically.

The boy grinned, and I turned beet-red and walked away.

To this day, my sister has never let me forget.

FOURTH TESTIMONY :
While in line at the bank one afternoon,
my toddler decided to release some pent-up energy and ran amok.
I was finally able to grab hold of her after receiving looks of disgust and annoyance from other patrons.

I told her that if she did not start behaving 'right now' she would be punished...

To my horror, she looked me in the eye and said in a voice just as threatening,

'If you don't let me go right now,

I will tell Grandma that I saw you kissing Daddy's pee-pee last night!'

The silence was deafening after this enlightening exchange. Even the tellers stopped what they were doing. I mustered up the last of my dignity and walked out of the bank with my daughter in tow.

The last thing I heard when the door closed behind me, were screams of laughter.

FIFTH TESTIMONY:
Have you ever asked your child a question too many times?

My three-year-old son had a lot of problems with potty training and I was on him constantly. One day we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick lunch, in between errands. It was very busy, with a full dining room.
While enjoying my taco, I smelled something funny, so of course I checked my seven- month-old daughter, she was clean.

Then I realized that Danny had not asked to go potty in a while.
I asked him if he needed to go, and he said 'No'.

I kept thinking, 'Oh Lord, that child has had an accident, and I don't have any clothes with me.' Then I said, 'Danny, are you SURE you didn't have an accident?'

'No,' he replied.

I just KNEW that he must have had an accident, because the smell was getting worse.

Soooooo, I asked one more time, 'Danny did you have an accident?

This time he jumped up, yanked down his pants,
bent over, spread his cheeks and yelled...

'SEE MOM, IT'S JUST FARTS!!'

While 30 people nearly choked to death on their tacos laughing, he calmly pulled up his pants and sat down. An old couple made me feel better, thanking me for the best laugh they'd ever had!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST TESTIMONY:

This had most of the state of Michigan laughing for 2 days and a very embarrassed female news anchor who will, in the future, likely think before she speaks. What happens when you predict snow but don't get any!

We had a female news anchor that, the day after it was supposed to have snowed and didn't, turned to the weatherman and asked:

'So Bob , where's that 6 inches you promised me last night?'
Not only did HE have to leave the set, but half the crew did too they were laughing so hard!

and that's all folks~!

Love?! Lord Above...

My friend Susie and I were discussing the 'love' subject the other day, and she told me she has pretty much given up on it. She gave up years ago she said because her daughter (now grown) has autism and nobody would want all that extra baggage. I can't even get her out of the house. "I could have been somebody" she tells me, but "she has ruined my life." (talking about her mentally ill grown daughter). I don't know, I don't think I would sacrifice personal love just because my daughter had special needs. Her daughter is taking two college courses as well. It's not like this grown daughter's father isn't providing support. He picks her up everyday, so Susie has relief and help. Lots of people have it rougher. To each their own. I don't know which is worse, having a daughter with autism or having a daughter on drugs and being sick in that way?

Sometimes I think in a way I have given up on love myself, and hang onto the notion that this long distance relationship is enough. Its not about the quantity of time we spend together, it's the quality of it. There he is with his, states away, and here I am with mine. I guess what I need is time spent. I don't want or need a 24-7 partner, I just feel the need to love and be loved. Is there such a thing as true love, ya think, bloggers? I have always heard that in order to find love you have to be looking, right? and your heart has to be ready to receive love. So many people I know say their disappointed in their love choices, but is it really the person or their perception of how it was supposed to go? Some people are just not capable of loving another person. Love, to me, is always worth the risk of injury to the heart, but so many fear being hurt.

My sister, (we laugh about this still), called me and told me love came knocking on her door in the form of a handyman she hired to do some work for her! Was it love or Memorex?! Yes, he is a now a distant memory. She found a new guy who bought her boobies and he is still playing with them! You never know, love creeps up like Candid Camera when we least expect it sometimes. Me? I joke about the gardener, but he's just a friend, always has been, and not a love interest. If you'd like to share a little love story about where and how you met your significant other that would be great! or how he (or she) floats your boat, be my guest! Here's a little love dedication to all you bloggers out there, in love still, or still looking.

That Must've Been Some Spicy Meatball~!

While in Italy on business, a married man has an affair with a young Italian woman. Before he is scheduled to catch a flight back to the United States, she tells him that she may be pregnant.

Concerned about financial support, the woman brings up the subject as to how he will care for her child without his wife finding out.

He then tells her that when she has the child, to send him a post card with the word "spaghetti" written on the back of it. Then he will set up an account at an Italian bank so she can have money to take care of the child.

Nine months later, he comes home from work, only to find his wife holding a post card from Italy. With a puzzled look on her face, she asks her husband about the post card and hands it over for him to read.

As she watches her husband read the card, his hands began to shake as a sullen look appears on his face. As his face loses all color, he attempts to read the message his Italian mistress wrote to him.

It read:  Spaghetti. Spaghetti, and more Spaghetti. Two with meatballs. One without. Send extra sauce!

and here's another tale for ya...

Meet Margaret and Charles, who have been married for 35 years.

Charles was always a cowboy buff and wanted a pair of authentic cowboy boots. Seeing some on sale one day, he buys them, wears them home, walking proudly.

He walks into the house and says to his wife, "Notice anything different about me?"

Margaret looks him over, "Nope."

Frustrated Charles storms off into the bathroom, undresses, and walks back into the room completely nakey except for the boots.

Again, he asks, a little louder this time, "Notice anything different NOW?"

Margaret looks up and says, "Charles, what's different? It's hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, it'll be hanging down again tomorrow.

Furious, Charles yells, "AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT IS HANGING DOWN, MARGARET?"

"Nope". She replies.

"IT'S HANGING DOWN BECAUSE IT'S LOOKING AT MY NEW BOOTS!!!"

To which Margaret replies, "YA SHOULDA BOUGHT A HAT!"

How many of ya'll have seen the Naked Cowboy (in the above picture) on the streets of New York?!

Another Poem From the Redneck Collection...

Susie Lee done fell in love,
She planned to marry Joe.
She was so happy 'bout it all,
She told her Pappy so..

Pappy told her, Susie gal,
You'll have to find another.
I’d just as soon yo' ma don't know,
but Joe is yo' half brother.

So Susie put aside her Joe
and planned to marry Will.
But after telling Pappy this,
He said, 'There's trouble still.'

You can't marry Will, my gal,
and please don't tell yo' mother.
But Will and Joe, and several mo'
I know is yo' half brother.

But mama knew and said, "My child,
just do what makes yo' happy.
Marry Will or marry Joe;

On Hoarder's Tonight...

Photobucket

Ya'll know I've been watching this series on A & E. Is there anybody out there watching this series too? Tonight, there were two cases, a middle aged lady named Linda who lives in a home filled with tons of clutter, and Steven who used to be homeless but lives in what looks to be an efficiency apartment in pure disgust and filth.

Linda's compulsive shopping not only depleted her family's finances but filled every room in their home with piles of bags and boxes. Her husband left her three years ago when he could no longer cope with her hoarding. Her youngest daughter was deeply affected by her mother's hoarding.

Linda and her husband are in the final stages of divorce and Linda must clean out and sell the family home as part of the settlement. Tensions run high as she struggles to let go of her things.

During the show, Linda got overwhelmed and the process was slow and by the end of the show the issue had still not been resolved more than one room, and the house was not fixed up or sold, and still in limbo with the divorce. The mess was left as well, except for what the initial cleanup crews and kids helped her with.

Steven was at risk of eviction from his government subsidized housing. His apartment was filled with garbage, human feces, bottles and cans.  It was pretty disgusting. I am not sure he isn't just lazy and filthy, and not necessarily a hoarder. He was a big guy too, I don't know how he got to his bed. When they first showed the apartment you couldn't even open the door all the way. His place got so unpleasant to even him, that he spent his days elsewhere. He was ordered to clean up or be evicted from his apartment and end up back on the streets.

Steven did really well, as he was ready to move on and be free of this way of life and filthy garbage hoarding. He is currently trying to write a book and Linda? She probably isn't free of her hoarding but moved on to a different location.

exploring my inner hillbilliness...

I betcha yuns didn't know I was the Dominatrix of Daytime Drama!

Yep, I love exploring my redneck hillbilliness and what better way to indulge than to watch Jerry Springer and his sidekick Steve Wilkos' show, and see what screwed up people there really are out there, so I can rationalize that my messed up brood seems pale in comparison!

Like today, this guy gives up a good girl to be humiliated on stage by a dominatrix! She's leading him around by his necktie, having him adore her feet by kissing them, telling the audience how good they smell, and such nonsense.  Wooohooo! Yep,that's what I wanta be when I grow up, a dominatrix! whip on big boys and humiliate them with toys cause it makes them feel good! I hear there's big money in that too! better than typing medical reports for diddly!

Steve (aka Springer's old sidekick) had this black girl on his show today who had lost four babies due to the physical abuse she suffered at this asshole of a boyfriend, and she even went back for more abuse! For goodness sakes, some people don't have the sense God gave a goose! But she had decided she had seen the light and of course was ditching his black ass, finally! and she was not pregnant, thank God for small miracles!

Anyhoo, what do you wanta bet they handpick these people off the streets and pay them money for coming on their show? My question is this, blogworld, have you or anybody you know been on Jerry Springer or Steve Wilkos show? perhaps you know somebody whose been on Maury and is still looking for the father of that baby?! Where do they find these people?! and you're thinking ... why appalachia of course?! You mean, West Virginia dontcha?!

and tonight, don't forget it's another edition of hoarders on A & E! It looks to be a good one too.

i just couldn't help it...

A senior citizen goes in for his yearly physical with his wife tagging along.

When the doctor enters the examination room he says, "I will need a urine sample, a stool sample, and a sperm sample."

The man, being hard of hearing, turns to his wife and asks, "What did he say?"

The wife yells back to him,

"GIVE HIM YOUR UNDERWEAR!!!"

Thousands of miles away

Pages and words to bridge

Closing of my eyes momentarily

Hmmmmm, there you'll be...

Slowly inhaling the lingering essence of lust

Ages will foretell the love, the romance of us.

Generations will envy the attraction,

Magnetism our heart's unfolds

History will be colored, tainted with the love

Pouring from our souls.

Eyes will hunger for a glimpse of what we share

Finger tips, hands will quiver and long to journey there

Touching, reaching out to grasp what we have discovered

Falling short of their quest for their spiritual lover.

this tale is brought you by the Venus Sextrap Thingy...LOL...
stayed tuned next week when I bring you tales from the radiology darkroom!
Gotta love that red light district!
I'm such the kidder!
but hey there were some darkroom tales, I just don't want know if I wanta tell yuns...

Twilight...

There is a time, right before the sun comes over the horizon, when the day still is perfect. Still in the womb of mother night, not yet exposed to the world. With a blaze of light and a flash of brilliance, you see the dawn. Beauty amplified a thousand times over in that each ray refracted is a different hue. Higher in the sky it climbs, the day's activities moving about below it unbeknownst to it. Lives begin and end under its rule and still it sees or does nothing to prevent this.

Allowing us to see its true and awesome might, the sun sets on the horizon, a vastness of beauty that the mind has trouble comprehending. Then, as if a switch were thrown, so begins the night.

The deep purples and seemingly endless arrays of blacks and grays coat the sky like a shroud, keeping it concealed as if there were great works being done man cannot yet see.

The moon shines bright, like a silver bar in the water. It rises to unspeakable heights, shining brighter and brighter as it goes. Suddenly it starts a dizzying decent.

Yet, before it reaches the bottom of it's nightly trail, the feeling that a cycle is both beginning and ending festers in the mind and heart. So we see again all the beauty of the day.

Hostess With The Mostess...

I should probably apologize ahead of time if you are turned off my music selection which at any given time could be playing in here. My music tastes are varied. I love everything from classical (being a Rachmaninoff/Beethoven fan and playing the piano myself) to rock and roll, however I'm not a big fan of country or bluegrass, depends on the artist. My parents wore me out with country! the old time stuff, Hank, Loretta, Chet Adkins, Whiny Wynette, Conway Twitty (is shitty! not he's not really but that's what we used to say at the time) sheesh! on LP vinyl albums too! and whatever else we learned of country we were always tuned into Hee-Haw! Did yuns watch this too?

It would be fun to see what music tastes you guys like to listen to, what your preferences are, what cheers you, soothes you, makes you feel good. I love disco, funk, alternative, R&B, blues, all kinds of jazz, and latin junk, and the big band swing too!

On Blogstream, where I originally starting blogging and still do, I started this Saturday Night Blog Fever thingy (which has virtually died out), wherein we would all post music, link it, and blog hop and reading whatever was posted, the story behind a particular song, what memories it held for them, or just a favorite artist. I enjoyed the creativity some of the bloggers would come up with, discovering new genres of music, and learning that there were new artists out there that weren't that bad! It was all about networking and getting to know a few bloggers; all in the name of blogship! Sometimes we put up chats and had blog parties, we had a blast.

Perhaps you guys might want to party up a song or video over here tonight or tomorrow. If you do, I'll put a link to your blog. Just holler back.

Here's my contribution this week...

but not my first choice...this one was. I just got sidetracked with Bob and Tom.

if you like jazz swing, you'll enjoy the last.FM box in the lower left corner! gotta hit play it yourself though, its not on auto!

I'm hungry, toast sounds good, too!

What Is Hemineglect? and Why should you care?

heck if I know...but you're gonna find out just like I did! Sometimes these doctors give me a diagnosis I'm not familiar with and at the end of my day I go look it up out of curiosity. Don't yuns share my morbid fascination with the human body and all the syndromes that could befall it? There are tons of syndromes and disorders out there, and some I've explored like Alice in Wonderland syndrome; there's always more like head bobbing doll syndrome, blue diaper and bronze baby syndrome to name a few, but today we are exploring the case of "hemineglect."

It has long been known, in case you didn’t know, bloggers, that the left hemisphere of the brain is dominant for language function, and the right hemisphere is important for emotional behavior, speech tasks, and visual perceptual tasks such as facial recognition and spatial attention. If you never paid attention to how the brain functions, you probably won’t have to worry about it unless you have a stroke…then shit hits the fan.

Left hemineglect syndrome is a condition in which the patient tends to ignore the world to his or her left. This condition, which is caused by a lesion (aka blocked artery) to the nondominant hemisphere (typically the right hemisphere), is most often the result of stroke. It results in significant impairment of function. It can be so profound that a patient is unable to recognize that even the left extremities are part of their own body. Can you imagine?

The deficit may be so profound that patients are unaware of large objects, even people, towards their neglected or contralesional side - the side of space opposite brain damage. They may eat from only one side of a plate, write on one side of a page, shave or make-up only the non-neglected or ipsilesional side of their face (same side as brain damage). Their drawings may fail to include items towards the neglected side, for example when placing the numbers in a drawing of a clock they leave out one whole side of numbers, like in that drawing. I guess there could be a plus side to this, in that when painting your house you would only half to paint one side of a room?! hmm…that’s something to ponder.

I suppose instead of all this research I could have just asked Dr. Grumpy!

So, there you have it bloggers, your medical lesson for today!

Stinking Up The House! ...and other add-on randomness...

so this afternoon, I'm trying to make the distinction between anergy and energy; it seems that some doctors interchange these two words, and basically they're the same thing! I suffer from this myself! My anergy level on any given day is 1 to 2 out of 10. Instead of typing these disability reports for others, I'm ready to apply myself!

just a little bit ago the doctor says, 20/25 in the left ear, and 20/20 in the right ear?!

Did I just hear that right?! ha! His dictation is as bad as my typing! my fingers just don't want to goooooooanylonger,can'tijustquit?isit3:30yet?

So here I am this morning, slaving at my work desk, typing reports and somebody is smoking in the house AGAIN!  Considering nobody lives here but Yours Truly, this is quite annoying! Ya think whatever darn ghost who is stinking up my palace here, could be more useful, like fixing me some bacon and eggs cause I'm sitting here starving!

I love bacon, bacon, bacon! *brings to mind that TV commercial about the dog and bacon strips!* I be bad. My cholesterol level hates me.

only 2 hours down, and 6 hours to go...

I thought once this morning I'd just call in dead.

See yuns...checking back in later.

The 'Just For Men Bed'

Lori, the pert and pretty nurse took her troubles to a resident psychiatrist in the hospital where she worked.

"Doctor, you must help me," she pleaded. "It's gotten so that every time I date one of the young doctors here, I end up in bed with him. And then afterward, I feel guilty and depressed for a week."

"I see," nodded the psychiatrist. "And you want me to strengthen your will power and resolve in this matter?"

"For God's sake, no!" exclaimed the Nurse. "I want you to fix it so I won't feel guilty and depressed afterward."

Three women were sitting around throwing back a few drinks and talking about their sex lives. Karen said: "I call my husband the dentist because nobody can drill like he does."

Joanne giggled and confessed: "I call my husband the miner because of his incredible shaft."

Kathy quietly sipped her whiskey until Joanne finally asked: "Well, what do you call your boyfriend?"

Kathy frowned and said: "The postman.""Why the postman?" asked Joanne.
