Happy New Year, bloggers

86tbfrmn8gtu8m04tyu2.jpg

let's toast! I wish each of you every happiness in the coming year.  I know its been a long one for me. I hoping for a renewal of myself, a hope to find love (lord above, am I crazy or what?), and a reprieve this year from all the madness that has become my life these last few years!

Merry Xmas, everyone.

I like to watch a few Christmas classics around this time of year, I wonder what The Wizard of Oz has to do with Christmas? nothing...but it was on the other night, and the kid in me who loved this movie, also watched it again...those flying monkey are still freaky!

Do you have a favorite Christmas movie?  I'll have to find out when A Wonderful Life comes on..I haven't seen it yet.

I also watched Scrooge the other night, and enjoyed that one too!

One line stood out to me...

"When happiness shows up, give it a comfortable seat..."

...wondering when that might show up!...

ho ho ho

 humdrum!

Try as I might I just can't get into the spirit of Christmas this year.  It seems it is just coming way too quickly and I just haven't gotten started with decorating a tree, doing any real shopping, etc...

Part of it could be the parental responsibilities of parenting Isabella, who seems to be out of control here lately, and really trying my patience.  Half the time I feel as though if there were a man in the house, her little fit throwing and shenanigans would stop!  Maybe this year I need to work on finding that partner!

Her brother is in foster care and she only sees him on Tuesdays, with of course, her parents, other set of grandparents, and all the attention is not focused on her, but on her brother, who this past Tuesday received gifts of a Nintendo DS and four brand new games, while she observed that nothing was given to her.  Well, the acting out was horrible, and despite my bringing this to her attention, she continued in the behavioral warp.  Once home, she was reprimanded to her room.  Later on that week, she decided that instead of doing her homework she would tear it up in a gazillion pieces (well maybe not that many) so she wouldn't have to do it.  Rather, she had to pieced it together with tape, finish the homework in its entirety and turn it in to her teacher Friday.  I can only imagine what she told her teacher happened to that homework packet!

Her parents fail to recognize that her behavior on that Tuesday was because of their actions as well, bringing "guilt gifts" into the Social Svcs office at visitation time.  It turned visitation into a carnival of videogames, which was absolutely absurd.   Isabella has already had to endure the fact that her mother did go to court and obtain custody of Wyatt back a year or so ago, without trying to obtain custody of her back.  I guess they really don't think about Isabella's emotional health.  I do have her in counseling, but even the counselor was surprised to see her act out in such a way, and wondered if perhaps there was a disorder going on.  I will probably have to take her for psychological testing even though we both feel this is not a disorder but rather a behavioral issue to be dealt with head-on.  She was grounded this weekend and yesterday she had a fit, made plans to spend the night with a friend behind my back mind you and despite knowing she was grounded, but I stood my ground and she stayed home.  Its a tough job being a good kid.  :)

Its even harder to parent a good kid who really wants to be bad. :) have mercy!

beautiful symbols with hearts and such!

Things Went From Bad To Worse

Friday, the first of November, Yours Truly made a call to Social Services concerning my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, Wyatt.  It came to my knowledge that there was a needle found while Little Queenie visited one weekend, 4 weeks ago, maybe 5 now, and I also saw a video wherein my daughter was pulling liquid up in a needle, turned and handed it to hubby, and from the suggestion, she turns to face him and its fairly obvious that is what happened even though her back was to the camera.  My other daughter videotaped this.  She has been telling me that they are using drugs again, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt until the video evidence came into view, and of course when Little Queenie told me she found a needle over there (she says it was orange).  I've been told their drug of choice again, is heroin.  Not surprising as they had a heroin addiction before, driving us all pretty much insane with their antics and wrath of thievery.

Since that time, my grandson has been placed in foster care, which I feel is the best place for him right now.  Mother in law says he is coming back to live with her, but its well known to Social Services staff that MIL has always been an enabler for these two adults to carry on with their drug usage.  She has provided them a vehicle, given them money, paid their bills to include rent, so I hope that Wyatt is not placed with the paternal grandparents, this will be a mistake. They had him once before and the two adults, my daughter and their son, have not been working the program to get their children back and stop their drug use.  They won't do that if Wyatt is put with family, but if he is left in foster care this might spark them into getting their lives in order.

Nothing has changed, Isabella has lived with me for 3 years now, and I have reason to believe she will be with me until I die.  I know she would rather be with her mother, my daughter, but she is not trying to help herself at this moment, both of them are holed up in a roach motel using drugs.  They were evicted out of the house they were living in.  Probably soon to be on the streets.  I do know that IV drug use has continued at the motel.  Sad.  truly sad.  Visitation will be set up for Isabella to see her brother this week some time.  I am expecting a call.

I'm over it all really.  At 34 years of age, these adults are not going to change at all.  I would love to be able to live life in a drama-free zone, however I'm not sure this will ever happen.

double trouble

This video makes me laugh, cause after bubby died, my friend Peggy told me that there was a kitten living in her garage that really needed a home so of course, I took it in figuring that Sissy might need a companion since Bubby died...

This little kitten (which is 5 or 6 months old) tries her best to get along with Sissy, and after 3 days Sissy is a little more lenient, but she still intimidates this kitten cause she's the Queen of the House! This kitten has remarkable coloring, most of it white, some calico, and a striped tail! Very funny looking to include a totally black nose in a triangle shape!

The kitten used to run from all of us, but is getting used to us after about 5 days, and will at least come around me now! here is her pic! She's a female too! click on the pic to enlarge.

Losing my gentle giant..

Even though pets don't live forever, it still hurts to have to put one down.  I watched this cat suffer for a few months really, not himself, sleeping too much, and here the last 3 days he went from barely walking to not at all, and just would lay and every once in a while cry out.  Sad, truly sad.  He was comforted by our voices.  Yesterday, my daughter and I took Bubby into the vet's office to have him put to sleep around 4 PM.  He was my daughter's cat, and she is 21, and she had him since she was 7 years old.  The suffering was just too much to bear.  He was a big cat, a Maine Coon, and he lived a long life.  It was hard to see him go.  He was so vocal and sweet and loving, sorely missed.

Rest in peace, Bub, till we meet again.

Ding-Dong, have you missed me?

Its been a busy time for me, sorry I've been MIA.  Anyway, I got a little joke to pass your way.

A new hotel employee was asked to clean the elevators and report back to the supervisor when the task was completed.  When the employee failed to appear at the end of the day the supervisor assumed that like many others he had simply not liked the job, quit, and left.

However, after four days the supervisor bumped into the new employee. He was cleaning in one of the elevators.

"You surely haven't been cleaning these elevators for four days, have you?" asked the supervisor, accusingly.

"Yes sir," said the employee, "This is a big job and I've not finished yet - Do you realize there are over forty of them, two on each floor, and sometimes they are not even there.."

LOL ...  I think I know people with this mentality...

some people have way too much time on their hands!

nearly August?

Where did the month go?

Time just keeps slipping by me.  I've got so much to do.  School is right around the corner; before that I have some home projects I need to get done, as well as getting this house refinanced enough to perhaps be able after I whittle down the house payment to take on a car payment. God knows I need a car too.

As far as Isabella living with me, her mother started her verbiage wanting to take me to court again for custody, but she knows deep down that she cannot handle Isabella.  She has mental issues too, in one visit went from sweet and nice wanting to do something nice for me she says, then turned to aggressive and belligerent a few minutes later, even taking it outside before she left the property.  I ordered her and hubby off my property.  That was it for me. She wanted to blame it on hormones, I blame it on crazy.  From now on, I control when Isabella sees her mother and when her mother can see her.  No more bullying from either one of those two.  I am pulling the reins back on this dysfunctional mess.

I think my grown daughter (Isabella's mother) was on her high horse cause Social Services gave Wyatt back to them cause they said as long as they have a roof and food stamps, and Mother in Law to pay all their bills they look normal, so she thinks Isabella needs to be 'home' with them.  Yeah right, its not okay with me.  Neither of them want to work or keep a job, and Isabella will go without if she lives over there.  She is only a commodity to them, more foodstamps and more tax money so they can blow it all on themselves while the kids go without.

I will drag whoever I have to into court if need be, and that includes Mother In Law and her pocketbook, and as a matter of fact, I am about ready to file back for child support for Isabella, perhaps Mother In Law would like to contribute to this household too!  Its been nearly two weeks and Isabella nor I have talked to grown daughter (Isabella's mother).

In any event, some things never change around here, and work is still sucking the life out of me.

Desiderata

Latin meaning “The things wanted, needed, or necessary. Things which are desired.”

The common myth is that the Desiderata poem was found in a Baltimore church in 1692 and is centuries old, of unknown origin. Desiderata was in fact written around 1920 (although some say as early as 1906), and certainly copyrighted in 1927, by lawyer Max Ehrmann (1872-1945) based in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Desiderata myth began after Reverend Frederick Kates reproduced the Desiderata poem in a collection of inspirational works for his congregation in 1959 on church notepaper, headed: 'The Old St Paul's Church, Baltimore, AD 1692' (the year the church was founded). Copies of the Desiderata page were circulated among friends, and the myth grew, accelerated particularly when a copy of the erroneously attributed Desiderata was found at the bedside of deceased Democratic politician Aidlai Stevenson in 1965.

Whatever the history of Desiderata, Max Ehrmann's prose is inspirational, and offers a simple positive credo for life.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,

be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others,

even to the dull and the ignorant;

they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons;

they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain or bitter,

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,

for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

many persons strive for high ideals,

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love,

for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,

it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe

no less than the trees and the stars;

you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life,

keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

Friday is right around the corner...

its been a long week! bring on the weekend.  Can I get an amen from ya'll out there in blogland? Is there life out there??  Heard this one?

A wealthy couple prepared to go out for the evening. The woman of the house gave their butler, Jervis, the night off. She said they would return home very late, and she hoped he would enjoy his evening.

Unfortunately, the wife wasn't having a good time at the party, so she came home early, alone. Her husband stayed on, socializing with important clients. As the woman walked into her house, she found Jervis by himself in the dining room. She called him to follow her, and led him into the master bedroom.

She turned to him and said, in the voice she knew he must obey: "Jervis, I want you to take off my dress."

This he did, hanging it carefully over a chair. "Jervis," she continued, "now take off my stockings and garter belt."

Again, Jervis silently obeyed: "Now, Jervis, I want you to remove my bra and panties."

Eyes downcast, Jervis obeyed. Both were breathing heavily, the tension mounting between them. She looked sternly at him and said: "Jervis, if I ever catch you wearing my stuff again, you're fired!" {#basic-ohsnap.gif}

What is this? Orbs?

I've been taking pictures for a long time, just not random pictures in places around the house; I was hoping to catch my cat by surprise as she jumped up on the bed, so I heard her coming and then she stopped, so I snapped this picture from sitting on my bed.  Its rather odd, other pictures after this and before this there was nothing in the pic...odd.  Feel free to click on it, and enlarge it and let me know what you think.  I've had so many strange things happen in this house and never felt I was alone.

My sweet Sissy...

Sissy is so funny! When I let her out exploring she chases bugs around the yard...

She loves it outside, sniffing, listening to the birds and bugs, hiding under the bushes, and makes a beeline for the door if she thinks I'm going out on the deck...she is my little shadow and follows me everywhere, so I guess it won't hurt to take her out for a bit...

Have a relaxing Sunday, bloggers!

Horror Flicks ...

I do love me an occasional horror flick, and today I was loafing at WordPress and came across this blog with a horror video.  check it out.  I am definitely going to check out some more of these videos!

anybody got a good recommendation for a recent horror flick?!

Hacks & Scams...the stuff nightmares are made of!

Mothers Day weekend was a busy one for me, we had a client that needed overflow done but my boss and I were having problems navigating the client's EMR system, so we had to go through IT department to have them download this properly.   Saturday evening, I had work IT people on my computer, so the issue got fixed and I was working in the website, and somebody pinged in.  Without thinking when the ping came up I allowed this thinking it was my IT department checking back into see if the 3rd party site was functioning okay or that it was a staff monitor in the clients' EMR system, when in fact it became apparent after about a minute it was not my IT department, nor was it anyone associated with the client.  Come to find out, the window or site that our India IT work counterpart used to have remote access to my computer was left open and not shut, which therefore left me wide open for hackers.

Now,  I consider myself an intelligent being, and I would never allow anyone access to my computer remotely (except my IT department from work), so I was not concerned at this point, but when he asked me my phone # and after I answered and realized it was not our IT guy, "Kash", rather some guy from India clearly struck a little fear inside the pit of my stomach.  He was trying to tell me I won a gift, and in order to get it, I would have to put in my 'personal information' well, he was very bossy and rude, that didn't go over really well, and I ordered him to get out of my computer immediately.  He was trying his best to scam me out of money says my IT department, bringing up a Western Union screen, then probably going to run a scan to scare me (which would not have worked either), but after only a few minutes, I got him out of my computer and all systems were cleared after a few phone calls and scans, thank God.  I immediately reported this to my IT department (which I feel should not have left me wide open), but the afterthought for me was that I was in a client's EMR which had pt names and personal information and this really scared me thinking that privacy could have been invaded.  I also had a name and phone # of this individual, so our IT department was going to track it down; also this information was given to Microsoft and HP for purposes of tracking and identifying the culprit.

Not to mention, attached to my work computer is a router and I have a personal PC, of course my first thought was does this guy have access to my personal information, bank accts, etc.. I had email open and all kinds of stuff, so in order to further thwart off any attacks to any personal information he could have gotten into or downloading some tracking program, I opted to change my bank accounts and online information.  This was probably something I didn't have to do, but in the back of your mind you are thinking months later you'll check in and poof! your identity and/or your bank accounts and all have been stolen or depleted...it was a nightmare just to think about it, but both computers have run efficiently without any problems, the only thing was the scare of it, and the timing of it, as I happen to have a portal open.  I do hope that our IT team which was based in India at the time of all of this, has decided upon something else to use besides that remote access site.  They should have known the dangers. This really was upsetting to me personally, as well as to my boss.

Clearly hacking and scamming have become the #1 professional activity for criminals, as no longer do they have to wear ski masks and carry a gun, or break in-home to steal, such as this latest scary heist, NY Times.

new toys!

well I am posting this from my new tablet!  I just wanted to see if this works ...talk about one finger typing!

Tech Withdrawal versus Childhood

Well, I'd love an I-Pad if I could afford it, or a laptop, but as it is I saw this little 7 inch HP tablet that I am going to spend under 200 bucks on, so that's not so bad, and it has wi-fi capabilities, so it'll be enough suit my purpose  (though the camera is not that good).  What does one expect for under 200 bucks!  I did not need this but I thought it might be fun.  I really need to stop buying these techy toys!

I can't believe its May already and June is almost here, wow!  Isabella has got a birthday coming up the 25th, she'll be the ripe ole age of 11.  Geeze, it's been a while since I was 11, chasing butterflies and dreams of growing up (which came too soon I might add), catching fireflies at night and putting them in a jar, the simple joys, pb&j sandwiches for picnics and hours we would roam down to the creek and hike until we had no idea where we were, but like a good hound dog we always found our way back home.

Kids are exposed to so much technology now days, and I am having to de-program Isabella from it.  Even at 10 they are seeking out social networking sites, its just too much, and Isabella is pushing boundaries as it is.  The music they listen to is crap! The other day, Isabella came in the house in a huff and said, "Mamaw, there's two police cars out here..." I said, did they come for you? She can be a little unruly and I tease her sometimes that the police are gonna show up.  Well, she said, no, that the teen next door called the cops because her mom took her cell phone from her! Imagine that? Isabella says I would never call the police about something like that...I reminded her of the fit she threw when just a week earlier I snagged her IPod to put up, and grounded her from all electronics! wow, I know I'm the meanest Mamaw ever! I tell her a kid needs to be a kid, not a high-tech lazy!as it appears I got that base covered! LOL

Tree Pollen...

In my neck of the woods, tree pollen is in the high red zone ALERT right now!  I have never been one to have allergies, or been diagnosed with allergies, but on Friday I had a window open in the livingroom (big mistake!) and that afternoon started getting a runny nose, and my throat kept getting more sore, I felt headachy and lethargic, and my throat got so bad that I could barely swallow.  Finally by the time Sunday rolled around, I felt a little better so I had errands to run, and by Sunday evening I started feeling like crap again! Even Isabella had allergies so bad yesterday that she stayed home from school, but she has prescription medications when she has flares, so today she was better and went onto school...but me?  I was miserable yesterday and even took Isabella's Zyrtec hoping it would work, but it did not, so I called my doctor.  He recommended Zyrtec or Zyrtec D.  Hey, come to find out that's what Certrizine is that I've been taking! shit, damn, fuck...I am about sick of this crud!...ugh. The pharmacist says I definitely need an antihistamine and to try Claritin or Allegra...I just want to go to bed.  :(

Trip to DC

Well, Isabella made it back safe and sound from her 4-day trip to Washington, D.C.  She said she loved it, had a great time, and actually learned a lot of history about our nations founding fathers.  They also played history trivia in the evenings about what they saw that day, making it fun for the kids to learn at the same time earning a prize!  She even brought back all her clothing and stuff sent with her, amazing! I believe she thinks she's the Queen Bella...LOL...and half asleep here!

Safety Patrol Trip to Washington DC

Well, today was the big day for all the kids who have been safety patrol monitors at their respective schools in the district, as they all were rewarded with a trip to Washington, DC.  I got a phone call at 4:20 AM telling me to have Isabella at the local mall, west end, at 5:15 for roll call.  I live 5 minutes away from the mall so a call that early was a little annoying! LOL...but I couldn't go back to sleep, so around 4:45 I got her up and she said, "Mamaw, I just felt like I just got to sleep" being so anxious last night it took her forever to fall asleep!  I, of course, had the job of packing her suitcases to ensure everything got packed to include Ipod chargers, snacks, socks, underwear, you name it!  She got up, pulled herself together, and out the door we left at 5:05 to the mall.  Once we got there and she spotted her friends, she took off leaving me standing there.  I talked with the sponsors for a bit and they were pulling out at 6 AM sharp.  Around 2 PM they were at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, exploring the inside, listening to stories about Thomas Jefferson and his family life, then exploring the grounds gardens, museums, and other buildings to include a pond out back!  I have lots of pictures already as the sponsors/chaperones are posting.  I also have an itinerary that includes where they are and what they are doing, plus a local radio station having updates every 2 hours for the next 3 days.  She comes home a little after midnight Saturday nite (early Sunday morning at 1:30 AM); again I will get a call out of my slumber!

Here's a few pics! You can't miss Isabella, she's the one with the hot pink shoes with her gray jacket tied around her middle! LOL...

gorgeous shot with the reflection in the pond!

Mrs. Barber, what did you say this was?! Eww!

When the cherry blossoms blossom,
they remind me of your passing.

It was the year when a cloud
almost obscured the sun.

It was the year when my heart
was filled with sadness.

It was so heavy to carry
the secret unseen burden of it
often caused me to stumble.

I did not weep, sometimes
nor cease to sleep, sometimes.

Though at times the loss
of you made me feel
that I might  drown on the air
of a day in a world without
you as part of it.

this rash has a name...

Yes folks, I never thought in a million years that I would come down with a case of shingles.

I woke up two weekends ago with a rash that appeared from my breastbone over towards the right breast/upper torso area and on out towards the left shoulder.   It was itchy, but scratching this set off a whole new meaning of the word 'pain!'  Nope don't itch it, cause if you do, it hurts so much more, feels like a deep bruise and major burn!  I couldn't figure out where this rash came from and had put up with the worst of it for over a week before I went in to have it checked.  I hadn't been around a patch of poison ivy or sumac, nor pulling weeds, hadn't changed the laundry detergent, and I tried some ointments which didn't work.  The other day when I had Isabella checked out because she fell and hurt her finger, the PA looked at my rash and asked me about it, said to me it looked like shingles.  Shingles? seriously? so she recommended I see my doctor, who confirmed this diagnosis today.

This is not a picture of my rash, mine is not that big, but nonetheless is that red and angry! wow...so its a prescription of Famvir for 7 days and pain pills!  It appears that shingles occurs as the result of a virus attacking the nerve endings under the skin, no wonder its so painful to scratch and just really really sore! Famvir is supposed to slow down the nerve inflammation and contain in.  My doctor says this is fairly common to see, the severity of which depends.  I'm not sure why, but if you had the chicken pox you could possibly develop shingles.  I've never had anything like this, not even a fever blister.  They say if/when the rash goes away you could then develop the post-herpetic pain, heavenly day I hope it doesn't spread and it never comes back!

the least you could have said...

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you,
but now it's come to distances and both of us must try,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.
I'm not looking for another as I wander in my time,
walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme
you know my love goes with you as your love stays with me,
it's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea,
but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie,
your eyes are soft with sorrow,
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

Redneck HomeStyle...

Well this is one way to wash up iffin' you ain't got no water (yes! I do know good grammar when I care to use it!)...and who would have thunk to use an old Mr. Coffee to heat it up...

Yes sireedy! that's redneck ingenuity right there...plus an electrical requirement..LOL!

disheartened

another staff member at our local office bites the dust yesterday...

He was just told his position was eliminated...whose next? its like standing in front of a firing squad just waiting...dodge the bullet now, what about a week from now..a month...its a good thing I don't suffer from anxiety or panic...in the back of my mind I know whatever I'm dealt I'm a survivor...come what may.  His job was more important than mine was and I've worked with this person for years, being there 14 myself.  These are scary times we live in.

not to mention on the television to learn of two bombs going off at the Boston Marathon...people hurt, some dead...lives changed forever...

addendum:  Today we all received an email informing us that there would be no more cuts from our local office.  Maybe a little sigh of relief momentarily, but still makes you aware that you are not that important in the big scheme of things; they don't care you have anything to fall back on, whether you have relatives you can depend on, what your home life circumstances are..or maybe they did take this into consideration at the local level...I don't know but at this point I'm just glad to have a job.  Some of my staff would gladly give up benefits if they could just stay employed...yes, its a sad state of affairs.

Unrequited Love...

In the Spring rain he came to me,
It was beautiful, unforgettable~
Its been rainy days since he walked away
four years ago
almost to the day
I loved him without reservation or restraint
taking him into the folds of my life,
while I was kept an outsider in his...

once a passionate falsetto, now falls silent.

not even a kiss good-bye.

Innocence...

Cats eyes...

viewing the city skyline at a distance

I cannot remember the link for this pic, but when you enlarge it, its awesome!

I always am mesmerized by looking at my cats eyes! They are so beautiful really and Sissy's glow green at night like a neon sign, its crazy scary! So here I am googling information about cats eyes.

Unlike human eyes, which work best in day light, the cat’s eyes must function well in extremely low light condition and as such are well suited to an animal that is predominantly nocturnal and crepuscular in activity.  Isn't that the truth, you'd think they'd sleep when you do, but they're all up night chasing anything that moves including car lights that might happen to peer in your window.  In darkness, cats eyes are able to function in approximately one-sixth of the light needed for human vision.  In low light levels the cats pupil must be able to open as wide as possible, but also be able to contract to very small size to protect the sensitive retina in bright sunlight. In human eyes, this size variation of the pupil is controlled by a circular ciliary muscle, but this limits the amount of size variation. In cats however, the same process is controlled by two, shutter-like ciliary muscles, which gives the cat it’s characteristic slit-like pupil in bright light conditions. All cats pupils are therefore elliptical, however some, notable the ‘Big Cats’, appear more circular when dilated.

The size of the cats eye is relatively larger than those found in human, this enables a larger pupil and therefore more light to enter the eye. Generally, the lens is more curved enabling sharper focusing even at the edges of the lens. The size of the anterior chamber and the curvature of the cornea is also greater, which helps more light to be refracted onto the light-sensitive retina.

Another feature, which enabled the amount of light hitting the retina to be increased, is the tapetum lucidum. This is positioned at the back of the cat's eye, behind the retina and acts like a mirror, reflecting light back onto the light sensor cells in the retina. This gives the cats eyes the characteristic night-time glow when they are caught in a beam of light. Yep, this causes that green scary glow, acting like a mirror.  I always wondered if it were harmful to shine a light directly at them but obviously it just hit the mirror and reflects back off right back atcha!

Do cats see in color?   I was told that cats saw only black and white, but recent research has shown evidence that suggests that cats may possess a degree of color vision after all.  It’s now believed that cats can see different shades of the colors blue and green, but that other colors are not all perceived as we see them.  Cats only have two types of cones (photoreceptor cells) in the retina of the eye that are responsible for color vision. There are three types of cones, and cats are missing the cones that correspond to the color red.  Humans have all three, allowing us to perceive more color and intensity of color. It’s believed that cats have a limited ability to distinguish the difference between reds and greens at all – which is actually a form of color blindness found in humans as well. So, no, cats do not see the world in strictly black and white form, but they do appear to suffer from a form of color-blindness.

Too Much Information...

Pt has hypertrophy of the anal papilla which was prolapsed and excised today in the office. Really? it appears I'm on butts today...this reminds me of when I was an x-ray tech and we had to be in the "barium enema" room all week for fluoro...

All this talk about assholes, is just way too much! and before breakfast, too!

Yes I have been having to listen to surgical reports, some of the details I wished I didn't have to hear, and the visualization...well...I'm glad my stint is over!

Its Friday, bring on the wine!

Fearless...

this is a 'sick' photo, found here while out browsing for something totally unrelated...

talk about fearless.

I wished I could be a little more fearless, but it seems I've become complacent to my surroundings, sucky job, and boring, mundane life. If I could go back and redo my life over, I definitely would steer myself into furthering my education first, the heck with that love stuff. I'm thinking about taking some classes, but I'm not sure I fit in the "spoiled" generation and I can't decide what I want to be when I grow up...LOL. I do feel lonely without a significant other in my life and looking for love would be equivalent to that cat jumping off the ledge into oblivion. Besides do people really fall in love in their 50s? be serious. Yes, I want to be fearless, perhaps I would give it all for love, but somehow I fear I will be living under the bridge as a troll, wishing for a cardboard box and a blanket! My life is stale. and shit...I've gone and depressed myself. Cheer me up, please!!!

Third time this year...

Isabella has been on the Honor Roll! I'm very proud of her...!  being in 5th grade isn't easy (so says Bella)...and then add onto that she is a Safety Patrol monitor.  Everything she does is scrutinized and she has to set an example, and I know she's learned a lot this year and been penalized for nearly every infraction, some of which did not have to do specifically with patrol.  Their Safety Patrol program is set up to deduct points but as I found out there is no positive point reward system.

Fact is, in this particular school, there are a lot of disadvantaged and perhaps behaviorally challenged kids.  When a kid is nominated for safety patrol, its a learning experience for most the first time, and they have to learn responsibility, not only for themselves, but for others and following extra rules, and not all kids are as mature as others.  I believe there should be a balance, not just a negative, and when the kid gets to zero points after starting with 20, they kick them off patrol.  What does this do to a child's self-esteem when they are kicked off safety patrol team after being hand-selected to serve on Safety Patrol?

Considering most infractions are 3 to 4 points apiece, one can see how quickly these 20 points can be taken down to zero.  The deduction of points begins to create negativity and weighs on them to the point they just don't care or want to quit the safety patrol altogether.  Isabella got to that point, and that's when I called the Safety Patrol board and I told them it is not a choice for her to get kicked off or quit; she started this program and she was handpicked to be on it, so I expect her to finish it out.  At this point I inquired about patrols being able to earn points back for good behavior; for example, not being late, always wearing their safety patrol belts, going beyond their duty, or making the honor roll, etc...and I plan to voice this to the school board as I don't think this is unreasonable.

If you've got a 10 and 11 year old you know that they are not the most responsible, and at this age to be kicked off after getting to zero would be a terrible blow not to mention having to forefeit a trip at the end of the year.  Isabella is down to 3 points but has served on patrol for nearly 8 months, some infractions did not have anything to do with patrol duties per se.   She has worked fundraisers, and its my job to make sure she gets to go on that trip, and they'll be lucky if she wants to sign up for another year.  I hope she does because I see she has matured more than I thought she would, so its been a gr8 learning experience for her.

Its too bad her parents aren't noticing the strides she made, not only at school but on a personal level.

Lets play...the body game...

Ready?   No peeking or doing online searches!

where is your natal cleft, bloggers?

go ahead, guess...

a giggle from Isabella

Last night we were laying in my bed watching American Idol, and I noticed Isabella eating those gummy fruits things out of a packet of Welch's fruit snacks, and if that wasn't enough she had her bag of honey barbecue chips also at her grasp.  Weird combo.

I noticed she finished that little bag of fruit snacks and she is trying to open another which she cannot get open, and I ask her...Isabella, how many packets of fruit snacks do you need to be eating before bed? one was enough I said, but she rebounds out with "well...that one was just a sample..."

Now, we both had to laugh at that one...cause if you think about it...those packets really are 'sample' sized!  and its also like chips...who can eat just one?!

the Misadventures continue...

Dear Blogdom ~ Click to get cool Animations for your MySpace profile

It's been a while since Your Majesty has posted on the misadventures of Griselda Mess and Lord Spoiled.  Have things changed in the Kingdom?

Well, one would certainly like to think so, but unfortunately some things never change! Griselda Mess is still going to the methadone clinic (has it been two years? way too long), and this place is a money pit, designed to rob the addict's family cause as you know addicts or ex-addicts don't want to work...and why should they when they can manipulate those bleeding heart family members into paying their bills?! How long does one have to go to a methadone clinic, I guess this is an individual indiscretion, however what is wrong with getting the heck off that crap in order to take your life back and actually live it. Wouldn't you think having your children taken out of the home would be reason enough?

Since Lord Spoiled returned back to Griselda Mess after a 9-month 3 hots and a cot hiatus, a year ago this month, he has only kept a seasonal job, 2 months max, with Mother-In-Law picking up the rental tab for both of them on the house they live in, even supposedly when they were working; the house of which is in disarray.  Little Queenie went to visit, laid her I-Pod down and its been missing for nearly 3 weeks! They have no vehicle now, they tore up the in-laws truck and now they are 'borrowing' her car but with lies to substantiate them using it. The State is feeding them.  Yes, nothing ever changes with those two...except that..

Griselda petitioned the court back for their 6 year old and got him back by passing a couple of random drug screens, lying about having a job, and with Mother In Law telling the Social Services people that everything seemed to be going well, however they are on watchful SS probation for another few months to keep Lord Wyatt Earp! God knows how this latest escapade will affect custody.  MIL (Mother-in-law) is making them look good to the courts by paying everything for them so it looks on the surface as if they function, when in reality they still have a drug-mentality, and its been rumored more than once that they're back on the wagon, even letting a ex-addict move in among other suspicious behaviors.  They know how to fake/cover drug screens, what they can take that will work out of their system, etc..they are very skilled at playing the drug and ploy for money manipulation games.

Why does Yours Truly care? I care because I have their other child, Little Queenie, in my custody, and I don't want the courts to be fooled that these two people are model citizens, are working and providing a roof and food for their children when in reality they are not.  But I guess MIL feels she would rather pay to have them be independent than have them move in, right? as it seems they got evicted, and the landlord is pursuing legal action. Your Majesty is not surprised! This has been a repeat offense by them.  It appears that while MIL gave them money for rent, she did not really know if they actually PAID the rent, oh my word, common sense would tell you not to trust either of those two with cash! ... especially after Bonnie & Clyde nearly bankrupted MIL and hubby the last year or two (says the In-Laws). In-Laws still complain of all the money they have been connived out of by Griselda Mess and Lord Spoiled, yet seem to not realize that they NEED to set boundaries!

and Blogdom, what possesses someone who is plastered to get out of a car with intentions of buying pop out of a pop machine, and stagger quite literally into a cop, who promptly takes him to jail?  As luck would have it...Lord Spoiled, who was to appear in court today.   It appears he had a controlled substance in his pocket in a pharmacy container that was unmarked, go figure! What was it? a pain pill.  Lord Spoiled is a recreational user and abuses alcohol and anything he can get his hands on! MIL (Mother In Law) states he has a prescription, that he goes to an 'out of town' physician, isn't that convenient? no self-respecting doctor would prescribe to someone of his caliber...and she believes her little boy was jailed unnecessarily! I sit back and watch the drama unfold...the misadventures of Dumb (Lord Spoiled), Dumber (Mother-In-Law) & Drill Sargent and Queen of Lies (Griselda Mess)! I swear you people have never heard such stories...to include her 'real father' dying?! seriously...

Stay tuned ...!

Where is your loving compassion, Your Majesty,
for those cortically subilluminated family members?

its just a matter of time...

before all of my crew lose their jobs to include myself!  it seems that they can pay 3 people offshore (most with no experience taken off the streets) way less than the cost of one US employee staffed as FQA (final quality assurance)...

for a cheaper price, but at what sacrifice?  The sacrifice in the long run will be a quality product delivered to the clients.  Then what?  move accounts back to the US when we have no staff left? They already moved accounts offshore at the loss of MT jobs and a quality product if one cared to do audits to find out,  and now they are moving any US QA accounts to cut costs...damn.

It really hits hard in these times of high unemployment. Is there really no loyalty in commitment to a company?  What kind of company lets employees go right before Christmas holiday? ... before that another employee had been there 20 years and was whacked.  All they do is call them up, tell them their services are no longer needed.

Two more staff employees are being axed Monday.  The one girl has been with us forever.  She will be devastated, and I'm not sure she won't pick up the phone and call me but I'm sure will be encouraged by HR not to contact any employee.

I had to move what employees I have around to cover midnight and Sunday through Thursday shifts.  We are running out of employees...its scary.

Bottom line:  The rich get richer and the rest of us suffer, that's what it boils down to, and I hate this.  :(

cute little critters

I don't have feeders out for birds or squirrels, sometimes I miss doing that...but once you start you have to keep it up as they will become dependent on you, just like another kid to feed! Generally Bella and I go over to Central Park, one block away, which is a nice woodland home to lots of squirrels to become one with nature's little creatures, taking peanuts, and most of the squirrels will just about walk up and take it out of your hands. They seem to be timid, but I don't trust any little clawed wild animals, so I try not to get too close!

You Know You're A Redneck...

or a hoarder, if you house looks like this from the road.  good golly Miss Molly~! One can only imagine what the inside looks like.

The Power of Subconscious Mind...

I have always been fascinated since the plunge of hypnosis myself just how powerful the subconscious is over the conscious mind.  Think about how many times you've been doing something, say driving for instance, and you get in your car, drive to your destination, but you really don't remember a thing about the drive per se other than you functioned to carry it out.  That is how most operate in their waking states, its just a do it type of thing, like rote memorization, but the subconscious mind is a little harder to tap into.  Suggestions made into one's subsciousness can be acted upon in a waking state with no recollection that you actually might have done such a thing!  For me, hypnosis changed my life from a smoker to non-smoker, nearly 10 years free of that habit, and I have to say I was a heavy smoker at the time. Your mind has the power to heal your body even if you're sick, I believe this wholeheartedly.  Here is something I am currently reading.

I was watching this guy, who is a mentalist, and he wanted to find out if people could be hypnotized or programmed to be a hired government spy 'assassin.' Here's a link to a real history website and you can view these videos, programmed to kill .   So as I was watching this show, this guy interviews for a recipient who could be hypnotized as some people cannot be, and he relaxed him into a deep sleep and put suggestions in, complete with triggers, and very clear on each step this guy needed to do.   His trigger would begin with the sound of a tapping bell like in a diner if an order is up, and his mission would then start, which was to drug someone's coffee (a person he had been programmed to believe was a hitman), and then to remove items from his silver briefcase to prevent a hit on the pictures of the person in that briefcase.   Of course everyone in the coffee shop were actors and actresses who let this guy follow through with his hypnotic suggestions.  In the real world, if someone had a pill and went to empty it in someone else's drink somebody would noticed and this would not have been accomplished.  However this guy did what he was programmed to do, walked out of the coffee shop, right back to where the guy was who hypnotized him and back onto the bed, and after waking thought he had a very strange dream, but in reality his dream was not a dream at all, but rather an act perpetrated by someone under the influence of hypnosis.  It was pretty eye awakening, and so I guess its true that people could become programmed assassins and have no recollection of every have done such a thing.  This guy was pretty freaked that he would do something like that, and so the hypnotist took out any memory of this incident from his subconscious mind, just erased it, and that in itself is powerful too!

This guy also put an ad in to give movie-goers a free peek at a movie coming out, but once the people entered the theater, he did a group hypnotic gesture and nearly ever participant fell asleep, except the few who witnessed the power of hypnotic suggestion.  As the hypnotist told each sleeper that upon awakening you will laugh, feel refreshed, think this was the funniest movie you've ever seen, and believe they sat through that movie.  It was surreal to see the expressions on their faces as they realized that they did not see a movie and the people who did not fall under the power of suggestion were there to witness.  I am going to continue to explore this, just because it fascinates me to no end! wow! maybe I can put Bella under hypnosis to take out all suggestions of defiance, get her to do chores without being told, and using good manners always!

Oops!

demotivational poster SOMEONE
of course I'm not snooty or anything like that, but some people do have nerve! I'll have to say!

Miss Crabby Patties...

Isabella woke up grouchy as an old bear! Said her head hurt, her neck hurt, she couldn't get up, and she was not going to school, and if she did she was going to be the meanest ever and "you'll get a call mamaw from the school telling you to come pick me up!"  I checked her head to see if she was running a fever, because last week she had the flu, so I thought maybe she could be relapsing, but instead of engaging in the negativity of the morning, I just went about my cheery self, defrosting the inside of the car windshield...what? yes! I know that's strange and scary...in any event, she got dressed and went onto school without incident.

the big D word...Discipline.

Reach to mash their smart mouths and you'll end up with threats from Your Brattiness of "You can't do that...I'll tell my teachers...or I'll call Social Services or 9-1-1..." and who wants jail time? right?

its just not legal to hit children despite the frustrations of grandparenthood...

Instead of that, perhaps contemplate taking them for a drive instead.

I'm not sure what it is exactly....

It could be the vibrations from the road,

or the scenery,

or something like that.

Either way:  it works!

Size matters; oh yes it does!
to a naked man...

1.   I've smoked fatter joints than that.
2.   Ahhhh, it's cute.
3.   Why don't we just cuddle?
4.   You know they have surgery to fix that.
5.   Make it dance.
6.   Can I paint a smiley face on it?
7.   Wow, and your feet are so big.
8.   It's okay, we'll work around it.
9.   Will it squeak if I squeeze it?
10.  Oh no... I just got a flash headache.
11.  (Giggling and pointing)
12.  Can I be honest with you?
13.  How sweet, you brought incense.
14.  This explains your car.
15.  Maybe if we water it, it'll grow.
16.  Why is God punishing me?
17.  At least this won't take long.
18.  I never saw one like that before.
19.  But it still works, right?
20.  It looks so unused.
21.  Maybe it looks better in natural light.
22.  Why don't we skip right to the cigarettes?
23.  Are you cold?
24.  If you get me real drunk first.
25.  Is that an optical illusion?
26.  What is that?
27.  It's a good thing you have so many other talents.
28.  Does it come with an air pump?
29.  So this is why you're supposed to judge people on personality.
30.  I guess this makes me the early bird.

hahaha!  some of those were pretty funny, but of course, I would never ever say anything like this...to each their own.  Its not the size, its what they do with it, right? no? well...!

Uniquely Weird...

While out browsing, I came across this article on unique properties, however they provided no link with which you could read about them or entertain the history of how they came to be.  Anyway, I figured I would share, since I had to go hunt for links so I could read about them.  Sometimes I have too much time of my hands and should be doing some house chores instead of taking home tours!

Ghost-Proof Mansion
California’s ghost-proof mansion is so mysterious that it can even fool the ghosts. The 750 rooms of this mansion include fake staircases, doors, and chimneys. Spiraling staircases leading you to the blank walls, adds to the mysterious factor of the mansion.  Great information about the background and history of this house at Wikipedia.

House on Rock
Wisconsin’s house on rock sits pretty on a 60 foot giant rock overlooking a scenic valley placed 450 feet below. This engineering marvel took 5000 tons of solid stone chips and 500 tons of sand mixture for its construction.  There is a video and a website, both of which are worth checking out.

House of Bottles
18,000 soda, beer, medicine, and liquor bottles were required to construct the magnificent house of bottles. Tourists from all across the world make it a point to visit this unique home during their visit to British Columbia.  To read about this house, click here.

The Revolving Home

This circular-shaped structure of Connecticut has rooms which look just like slices from a pie. The construction rests over a 3-ton heavy ball and revolves with the help of a 2 h.p. motor. The transparent glass windows add to the attraction and beauty of the revolving home.  Here is a video tour.

Underground House
This beautifully carved structure under the earth’s surface took more than 40 years to get completed. Built in the year 1946, the underground house of Fresno, California provides a 90-room facility for its guests and visitors.  Want to see more?  click here.

Now, if you got an opportunity to stay at one of these homes, which one will you choose? While the ghost-proof mansion can make you feel secured, the underground house can arouse your curiosity. Again, the house on rock can give you a taste of excitement and adventure, while the house of bottles and the revolving home can promise you pure fun and amusement!
