At the risk of sounding paranoid, I really think that they are looking for a good reason to fire me. They are breathing down my neck here lately, and have been since I've had changes in my schedule because of my daughter who has needed attention is now with me, demanding priority, and taken me away from my work schedule ...blah, blah, blah ...
One day the immediate supervisor tells me she can work me on a schedule if an appt comes up and the next time she doesn't work on a schedule but rather says, "If you can't work your schedule then you need to talk to "BOSS".
I don't get it. Here's a scenario.
My daughter was scheduled for testing on a Monday 11-4-08 at 9:30, which they tell me will take a few hours, so I tell my supervisor and she asks me if I would be willing to work some hours the Sunday before, so I do that working 4 hours. Mind you, we worked that out without the BOSS being involved. After arriving for the appt on Monday and sitting there for an hour, the lady informs me at the desk that Bobbi probably wouldn't even finish before noon, so if there was something I would like to do instead of sit there, to go ahead just be back at noon to pick her up...so I go back home and email work telling them I am back on the clock as of 10:30. Then I get a message from the supervisor who says, "will it be a two-hour block" (not that it should have really mattered since I had already taken the time off) to which I reply, it would be short an half an hour of making it two, ... so in other words it sounds to me as if she is saying, "if it is NOT a two hour block don't bother working right? so I respond to her that I will wait until 12:30 to pick my daughter back up, or have someone else pick her up for me, which thankfully her stepmother could pick her up, so I work until 2:30 p.m. straight through getting in my 4 hours. I then work 3 hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Mind you I didn't have to work that since I had already taken the time off, but since it's Monday and workload is always higher from the weekend, I did, and of course the BOSS was not bothered with that change in schedule ...
Here's the other scenario ...
This morning I inform her that Tuesday (tomorrow) I am going to have interruptions in my day due to an appt and family issues and tell her I will work out my hours to which she responds, "Can you give me a rough idea of what they'll be? For instance, are you
going to work any in the morning at all or what?" I respond with trying to tell her what I can work, which I guess wasn't good enough for her or something and she responds back, "I forwarded this on to "BOSS", as you are supposed to be letting him know when
you cannot work your scheduled hours. He says to take tomorrow off, and if you have vacation time, put in for it.
I'm a little taken aback by this response from her, and am thinking, what the fuck? Really? It's okay if we can work out a schedule one time but the next time we are supposed to involve "BOSS?"
My next response was, holding my temper, was "I just found out over the weekend that they were going to Princeton which is 7 hours away and I would be needed to help out in order for little Bella not to miss school, and as far as the appt for Bobbi, certain things could not be rescheduled, and that I do not prefer to burn my vacation time for this.
Supervisor sends me back this message: "If you have a problem with this, you're to call Brad and discuss it with him."
At this point, I'm thinking what the hell, whatever ... it is obvious that instead of trying to work out ANY hours, they just want to dock me the whole 8 hours or make me burn my vacation time, so instead of responding back I give myself time to not say something I might regret at this point.
Three minutes go by and all this time I'm working typing ... and I get a message from "BOSS" saying ... "you may take vacation or not take it. It's entirely up to you. We'll schedule you for the day off."
My reply back to him an hour later ...
"BOSS", I was perfectly willing to work whatever hours I could tomorrow, and make up the other hours thru the week or on Sat., rather than take the 8 hours off, since I figured the holiday put us behind and we needed all the manpower we could muster.
Am I expected to take a whole day off anytime there is appt I have to make or a family situation or doctor appt comes up? I hate it that this appt is at 11 myself, I didn't schedule it, it was made for me according to their schedule, which I do realize is a horrible time. As you know, Bobbi is in counseling and unfortunately I cannot find somebody to take her all the time.
I just get frustrated at this point, and cancel the appt at 11 even though I know I should not have just to keep down the interruption in my day and decide to reschedule the appt., and the only interruption would be my taking and picking up little BellaRose to school.
So the "BOSS" asks me what can I work tomorrow? I say probably 8 to 3 since I still have to take/pick her up from school, which he says is okay with him and he opts out, and then forwards it back to the supervisor. Duh! Why did we all just go through that?
and here's the kicker ... while on lunch at 1 my daughter calls and says that I won't have to deal with little BellaRose tomorrow after all, as she had an appointment here that she could not miss so going out of town with hubby on personal business was out and she would be home. Say what? after all the stuff I've gone through already???
at 3 p.m., I notice there is only one more report assigned to me, so I email supervisor and tell her that I am working till 3:30 and that she should assign me at least one other report to do, as that 5 minute report wouldn't take me 30 minutes to do, and what does she send me? one 25 minute dictated report and another 15 minute dictated report which means either one I choose is going to run me over 8 hours, so I opt for the 15 minute report and end up working till 3:45 instead of 3:30.
In case you are curious, the time it takes the dictator to dictate an actual report, usually takes the transcriptionist twice as long to type. Surely there was a report with lower dictated minutes than that on the system, but oh well...could that have been spite?
and that has been my day, how has yours been? like I care...
