another day in FQA paradise...
In the Land of Transcription today ~
the dermatologist dictated...
"I recommended he use CeraVe cream for moisturization."
"I recommended he use CeraVe cream for masturbation."
When this was brought to the MT's attention by the FQA staff, she stated...
cracked us both up!
and that one beats the reigning blunder of Hallucination Greer Blvd, which my boss informed me she sent to a client way back when she was an MT, she had "hal" in her auto correct to automatically spell out hallucination, so when the addy was Hal Greer Boulevard, well you get the gist of it...
oh the stories we could tell! and there you have it folks, another day, another giggle! How was your week?
I am glad its Friday!
Where In Hades Have I Been?
There has been a lot of people getting whacked or leaving the company I work for lately, people in positions of power I thought, so my peon job might be on the chopping block next, who knows. The stress is being felt, and they want more, pay less, with no incentives, and sometimes I think the best thing would be to just whack us all and get it over with, why delay it. More and more of our accounts are being moved offshore, pretty soon no US FQA will have jobs they can make a living at paying only a few cents per line.
I do worry these changing times are growing worse day by day. Quality is not what it used to be, neither is service, people are not as honorable as they should be, and family leaves sometimes a lot to be desired as well. I need to escape this hell of Appalachia (hopefully not in a body bag before I can live!) and this stress and making me fat job, and the confinements of my life, mortgage, more bills than I care to deal with, and perhaps just go homeless and ramble...ramblin wo-man..
Yes, I am going to buy me a one way ticket to never never happy land...but where might that be, folks? .anybody know? Go ahead throw out those suggestions. Sometimes I think people who get free room and board at the local lock-n-key motel have less worries about life and strugglin' ... .hell they get 3 hots and a cot, and they have rights? they don't work, cook and clean...why does life seem so complicated and exhausting? I can't believe its only Tuesday. GAWD!!!!
Imagine My Surprise!
This morning when my alarm went off, and I had to get Isabella out of bed, I asked her if it was Friday. I was thinking it was only Thursday, not looking forward to the day, but a quick check of my computer alerted me that it is Friday! It couldn't come soon enough to suit me!
The complaints this week didn't last too long, everybody was served up with emails concerning their bloopers, and we moved on. Our new In-House FQA liasion is stepping up to the plate, trying to deal with some serious issues between us and our offshore QA Department. Thank goodness some good things are happening; its about frickin' time!
It is Friday, TGIF! Have a great weekend ya'll!
Shit Tuesday
TGIF
I have definitely had moments of stress this week. Luckily nobody got hurt; however I am not vocally challenged when it comes to email...I will let 'er rip! Yep, they ain't paying me enough for this stress! Its a constant battle with these ICs (independent contractors, not worth the powder and lead to blow them up most days) and employee FQAs reminding them of what they should already know and be doing on these accounts. Do they read or follow instructions available to them? hell no...They would rather interrupt me on IM (instant mesenger) while I have enough on my plate with reviewing files and managing the workload flow. Tonight it dragged on way too long, and at 9:30 p.m. I finally got done with what I had to do. Fruck that shit! You know how this scenario goes. Pete and RePete were sitting on a fence, Pete fell off, who was left? why Repeat (aka Re-Pete) of course! Intermission, folks...
Arthur-itis...
My right mouse hand is stiff and I can hardly bend my finger joints. I believe old 'Arthur' has come to visit. I'm also having more musculoskeletal discomfort in my shoulders and neck area. I think a trip in to the doc to get a little blood work done might be in order; also probably need to check my vitamin B levels.
At least I don't have to type for 8 hours a day, that was hard to do. I would have burning stinging palms, so red they looked as if they had been smacked by somebody. I also have Raynaud's in the winter, the tips turn white and blue, and stay numb. I know I'm immunocompromised with having hypothyroidism, and no intrinsic factor in my stomach to store vitamin B12 in my body. Probably nothing a good shot of B12 couldn't fix on a weekly basis for a month or two.
Getting back to work today after vacation literally wore me out. I need a sponsor so I can quit this day job. Any takers?
Holey Toledo!
How long will it take to open this file up?
Doctor name here | Some Family Health Care | vendor | 2011-05-31 09:12:34 | 637:52 | Default | SKIP | FQAL |
I saw this 637 minute file on the system today, and I thought to myself...
Yep, these doctors have to learn to turn off their recorders, and not leave them on for 10 hours after dictating a file...IF this actually has a patient dictation on it.
Yesterday I woke up to nearly 700 files on the system. It didn't look bad Monday evening, but by the time Tuesday morning came, it was a madhouse! However, with much diligence by my FQA staff and my maneuvering files around to compensate we actually pulled it off and got 'er done! Somebody probably got this 637 minute file opened after half a day...LOL...luckily it wasn't one of our files, thank goodness!
Could it get any crazier?
Well, it seems that I have more responsibility with covering a squealer's workload, who complained so much about not having enough work for 'her people' that now she doesn't have 'people' to worry about, and its now MY worry. She has the crappy accounts, and one you have to worry about stats with...
ugh.
aren't I the lucky dog? yeah, yeah...She's not adjusting well, come to think of it, neither am I! I really didn't want this x-tra crapshit.
Good news, though. I finally did put in my request to take a few days off this coming month and the next month. My boss and I were laughing today that I will have to definitely bring her up to par on what she needs to do to cover me whilst I'm enjoying being stress-free...LOL..., and that includes "Falcon" too...
Yep, I gotz my work cut out for me it seems, but all is good.
Here Comes The Sun...
Today, I was having to work double-duty to cover for another supervisor on her accounts and manage her people with workload as well. No major catastrophes, but the day kind of ended up with me having to be on here till 7 or after. Since I was on here at 7 a.m., that makes for a rather long day. At 4:30ish, I'm getting ready to log off, Operations decides that they are having a crisis and needs an MT to type documents for this doctor because he is wanting his files back. The account belongs to India in-house team, but they're in bed asleep, right? Its the dead of the night over there. About the same time Operations hit me up, the customer service Rep was hitting me up asking if I knew of a couple of MTs that could type up these documents, obviously late. and the doctor was bitchin'.
First off, I am not in charge of the MT's (medical transcriptionists); I am in charge of FQA but that girl was out due to pregnancy; in fact she was going to hospital today to be checked and for possible admission. Does anybody know what the plan is when the right hand woman is gone? No...
I found two willing MTs, however unfamiliar with the accounts, so I pulled them typed samples out of Scribe, and helped them as best I could. I told them to upload the documents to us (the FQA team). One of the MTs was having a hard time with pediatric 'terminology' to include major medical terms. He also talks a little fast to me. I had FQA proof them, and I think the last file was uploaded at 5 p.m. sharp! hahaha, talk about a deadline. There were no blanks left in these documents. This was for a doctor's office in California. We are good, yes we are!
I felt bad for the customer service Rep, even though my immediate supervisor told me I should not have gotten involved; its hard not to get involved when two people are asking you to help. I called another supervisor for direction because somebody has to be in charge of the one whose out having a baby right? Well you would think so...I told my immediate supervisor that I would not do this again...! Operations only got involved too, both of us trying to help with the situation due to the supervisor of the MTs being out. Somebody had better put some protocol in place on issues like this, because I refuse to overextend myself again, especially if the doctor complains about the files! Lets hope they were to his satisfaction. We'll know for sure tomorrow.
and tomorrow ... the same chicka is off again, so I will be performing slave duty for her on top of my usual and customary responsibilities. We always get slammed on Thursdays and Fridays...Maybe I'll call in sick tomorrow and wouldn't my immediate supervisor love that? yeah baby, yeah...Vacation bells are ringing!
life In lower class management....
Some days I could just "take this job and shove it..."
walk my ass to the welfare office and sign up...
for a check and food stamps...
coz some days the pay don't equal the stress...of...
trying to keep track of 15 people online,
manage the workload,
cover production with absent people or those on vacation,
deal with production/system issues, upper class management, client complaints, independent contractors who don't have to give you squat-ass notice, other employees and supervisors, conduct audits, keep a paperwork trail...
a girl can become easily overwhelemed...
but we have a new management filing system in place...
dont'cha love it? hahahaha! Is there no one out there to take me away from all this madness?! apply within the sheets, please!
Mondays Blah...and drifting mind...

In other news, the boss lady is back today from India. She had a family tragedy with a couple of deaths of her in-laws due a boating accident gone bad which cut her trip short, but as far as work and such we really needed her back. We have things that need planned out, discussed, and otherwise protocoled. (Is that a word?). She called me with questions today and I brought her up status about whats been going on.
Workload seemed massive on the amount of files we had, two people missing in action today. That always puts more work on the other members of the FQA tribe. Its like covering vacation time. That in itself, can be quite an issue. Independent contractors work when they want to, not when we want them to. It can be a pain in the arse, especially around the holidays. Everybody wants off, but we still have to cover the workload regardless. We do have dictators who will dictate on an actual holiday and stat files. Even with two people off we still got 'er done!
I guess I'm not the only one who has crazy in the family, its everywhere. One of the girls who helps manage part of the workload told me her mother was put in jail; she got drunk and disorderly (I assume) as bond was set at 10,000 bucks? yeah, sounds like there was a little more to the story than meets the eye? I'm not one to judge, cause I got crazy here, to include the in-laws, especially MIL (mother-in-law), who wanted to have a "family meeting" about her son and my daughter's suspected deceit over money-getting?...nah. I told her those two are grownup and I am not involving myself in their affairs. If MIL and hubby gave them cash money and are now realizing that they should not have, oh well, too bad, so sad. Stupidity overrides any intelligence this woman supposedly has when it comes to her spoiled brat of a son. Both MIL and her henpecked hubby already traveled this road once, and obviously are not too smart in realizing a pattern of behavior and deceit here involving money. Family meeting at my house? It ain't gonna happen.
Its like I told MIL, I am raising my daughter's child here, I am not hosting a bash session here over two adults (my grown daughter and her supposed do-less husband). What did she expect me to do with little eyes and ears here taking in all this about her mother? What about her brother who would also be toted to this meeting at my house? ahh...let me say this again. No!! My little Bella's mother (my grown daughter) is physically ill that's for sure, deceitful and still using drugs? I don't know. Only they know what they are doing, and both my daughter and son-in-law are perfectly capable of this type of behavior, eliciting sympathy and pity over health issues requiring cash money for this, that, and the other. Why would I care? I care about my daughter, but financially she will have to get a medical card or some other means by which to acquire medical care, and if she is truly ill enough, she needs to be talking to the people who can help her. Isn't everyone suppose to hold themselves accountable for their own behavior? I am not a judge or jury, nor will I partake in such. I just want to be left alone. I refuse to be a victim of money-needing drama induced by two people who cannot live life any other way or sucked into the merry-go-round cycle of MIL and henpecked hubby wanting proof to substantiate their stupidity at handing them money.
How was your Monday?
Email Etiquette
What do you get?
an email reminding you to always please use proper email etiquette.
You never know who is going to read it.
Yes, my bad.
However I was not calling anybody else "bitchy" totally referring to myself over a matter. Was this so bad?!
and I quote..."Please don’t think I am just being bitchy here, but it is not the responsibility of FQA to have to hunt for dates of service because they were uploaded to us without this information. This is not the only account with roster issues (take EVMS OTO for example) and/or TPMG. Holding files for rosters creates the effect of FQA getting slammed with documents, obviously already late getting back to the client before FQA even touches them."
Can I trade this job for what's behind Door #2?
Obviously I am too rude, crude, and unrefined for this management position!
Lordy.
I totally understand
the etiquette
thingy.
I get it.
I get it.
Snit, Snot, Bitches...
By the time it was 5:30 p.m., she was apologizing to me for being "short and snippy," said she just had nobody she could take it out on, we laughed. I know the pressure she is under, believe me, and I know the pressure I'll be under when she trapses off to India again for 8 weeks. Yeah TWO Frickin' Months!!!!!
Its been a few days of hooty wildness...snow, school closed, an 8-year-old driving me nuts, fighting and scratching, all while trying to do my job from home! You know how girls can be if they are getting on each others nerves, cooped up because of the snow. School had better be in session tomorrow! If that's not enough, my car died yesterday, deader than 4 o'clock. It won't even turn over, and I haven't even dealt with that yet. I suppose the weekend is right around the corner, maybe I can bribe a friend to check under the hood and see what is wrong.
If I make one resolution this year, its to get a damn car! I'm tired of this constant worry with this vehicle. She's been good to me though for many years now, but like all good things they must end, right? If you'd like to donate to the poor appalachian need-a-car fund, feel free.
...and on that note, I'll end this. Hope ya'll are having a better week.
Do I look a little stressed?
Actually I knew yesterday that today was going to be murder on the FQA homefront. Since I am team leader (aka lower class management...lol) I had more jobs than people to get 'er done, and quite frankly it was getting worse by the minute. It seems the recording lines for the doctors were busy, busy, busy! this weekend. We had tons of work to get out.
Some of my FQA people can do certain clients, some can not, therefore complicating my dilemma, and furthermore the same sick chicka yesterday evening, let me know she wasn't working today, and client who has a 4-hour turn around and a 6-hour turn around TX client would need coverage. I was not doing it again tonight, yesterday I had no volunteers...just they wait until they want vacation time! ha!
By 3 p.m., thanks to my diligent staff and much coercion by myself for them to work over if need be, we had this thing licked and we didn't have to work over! and I have coverage for TX and stat files. Damn I'm good.
..and how was your Monday?
Use It...or Lose It...
In my new management position, its taken up a lot of time, and my responsibilities really preclude my taking any real vacation time, so I still have 80 hours this year, and can only carry over 40 hours. As you know it is the last week of the year, and I do not want to necessarily take vacation time away from my desk, but I do feel that some compensation is in order, don't you?
Last year, when I was still hourly and not salaried, I took my vacation in the form of money, as a check to help with bills and expenses, which worked well for me. I sent an email asking if they would consider doing that with this 40 hours I may lose if I don't take. Next year, you can bet your sweet ass that I am taking every dang day I got.
I really hate asking for compensation on the 40, but I could use the money. Its not like I am going to get rich, and after all that would make up for a bonus I didn't get either? What would you do?
*I got a reply to my email, which stated, "No unfortunately (to my request of receiving money compensation), There are many employees losing vacation time.*
Well, I guess even though there is really no one who can cover my job, that is not my problem, and they will have to come up with something this next year because I will take every day I am allocated.
Calgon...Take Me Away!
I don't think I knew what I was getting into when I decided to become the team leader for my QA supervisor. While she is trapsing on foreign soil, I am here trying to figure out what the hell happened. Why wasn't I told this...that...or the other?!
They failed to mention to me (until the day before she left) that I would be coming into the office everyday? Are you kidding me? Moi? Who has worked at home now for how many years? You want me to come into the office EVERY day for 7 weeks? What are you people? Hard up for company or what? If I can help it, I won't be there but for very few hours, if any.
I did go in Friday, and believe me...I could have done better at home here. I missed having my own computer, knowing where my stuff was on it, and worst of all not having my email (which I did not have access to there and which is major hindrance I might add)...if it wasn't one thing, it was another! not to mention I had to dress out of my jammies?! the atrocity I tell ya! and then as soon as I was trying to get some proofing done on an account, the foot pedal wouldn't work and what about that cheap assed headset I had to use...ugh...it was the kind that felt like a stethoscope right in your ear with this foam piece, and my ears felt like they were on fire! ha! well I never!!!
and who can listen to reports when the desk I was at housed the front office and the phones, and there were constant distractions which are just not a routine part of my day! I told them I would need to have my own office if I was mandated to be there, out of the mainstream noise factor!
I did learn that we were getting more QA people to help proof reports and lessen the workload but that's more people to try to keep track of, like I don't have enough to do already! I have a hard time keeping track of the 7 people I have at the moment, who are contracted, and some work in different time zones. Upon further questioning as to who was going to train these new people, I was told I would be? Who said? Of course that was the first I had heard about it. Go figure. Did I mention I haven't heard a word of becoming salaried instead of hourly, but at this rate, even having to dole out work on the weekend, it would pay them to put me salary, because I ain't doing this for free! and I sure as heck ain't going to proof work myself. I'm going to blow before this 7 week charade is up!
Yep, I'd say they ain't paying me enough for the stress to come!
HolyMotherofGawd!
Mondays...
you just can't escape 'em!
I stayed up too late last night, so everything I do feels I am doing it in slow motion. I guess I rested too much over the weekend, which interfered with a good restful sleep last night! go figure...
and today in the world of transcription today, I have encountered no major bleeps; only this...
"Despondent home is time-out and denying privileges..."
which obviously was Discipline in the home..."
good grief already! you'd think it was a Monday! lol
Today In The World of Transcription and Beyond...
if I told those MTs once, I told them a blue-billion times...to put this information in this box in this particular...quotations go outside the punctuation...oh I give up! and how many times must I go to pull up a doctor's patient roster list for a particular date only to find there is no roster for that doctor on that particular day, or that all too wonderful error that says "This file is not a recognizable format." What? Damnit. Same rerun, different day. I ask you Blogdom, how am I to do my job properly as to verify names and/or medical record numbers, or to even insure that is the correct date, much less the type of report, procedure, followup, clinic note, etc...if somebody else doesn't do their job?...ugh! if I were in charge heads would roll...if you can't do your job, there's the door, and by the way, you are way past your 3rd strike whoever you are.
Yep, today I woke up with a headache from hell, blinked at the screen half asleep, eyes squinted, wanting to scream, noooooooo! and the thought occurred to me to just call in dead...wouldn't that be the perfect day to call in dead? Mondays? especially in my line of work. When I sign off the frequency, more than likely it will be on one of my 'off' days, that'll piss me off, as it should be on a Monday!
In my muddled state today, I hear a urology doctor dictates what sounds like, and the MT types, "He has been out of the steam baths and taking Fertile One. I can't laugh at that one, cause I found myself a little stumped frankly...as there is such a thing as a bother score on a rectal exam too...so I am thinking ...what is this? uh...for one thing, the sentence structure does not even make sense, and I don't think that is what he is saying here, however, I am not sure I know what he wants or slurred in here, but I sure as heck ain't leavin' my initials or sending a report back to this doctor with steam baths typed anywhere in it, so I leave a blank for it!
Interestingly though, I do learn quite a bit. For example, like today. Doctor dictated that most men who suffer from erectile dysfunction difficulties could have undiagnosed cardiac disease, as this can be a early sign of heart problems. Of course, that is merely perhaps only one cause, as this can certainly be multifactorial. However, it has also come to my attention that even penises who can't get erect on their own accord due to whatever cause has interfered with its ability to stand up and demand attention...it can be given an injection with good results! and if oral medications are not treating the erectile dysfunction properly then the patient can do injections or try a pump? sometimes this stuff conjures up weird imagery as I listen to these doctors. Yes, today an erection occurred right before my very eyes! Well, not exactly...
and the doctor did warn the patient if his erection should last for more than 3 hours? (I am not kidding) that he should come back immediately to get that resolved, and/or have his injectable dosage decreased. Can't you just imagine that scenario when the patient leaves his office and gets home? "Honey, I'm home...I brought you a gift..." a 3-hour woody? She might not be so thrilled! Are you sure that's a good idea, really? esp. for older men coz I'm thinking if erectile dysfunction is a precursor for heart problems, then giving them an aerobic workout...well, you see my point.
Yes, Urology takes penises and twats into serious consideration, as they should, and are totally a matter-of-fact about it. I have learned far more than I needed to know.
While out cruising around Blogger, and upon visiting Madame, I had to burst out laffing and still am. She is one of the joys here at Blogger...as are most of you whom I have connected with, so skedattle on over and enjoy her post by clicking here.
