more MANDATORY overtime.

We got an email telling that that mandatory OT was not in effect any more.  I guess they figured out that all these hours they are gonna have to pay staff by not letting them know they shouldn't have been working 9 hours days, leads me to believe that they now want to control people's weekends and ask that you can only get OT if you weekend hours ...

I can hear it now ... "due to the volume we have on Friday we are asking for OT on the weekend" ... its not like the workload isn't there for people to work 9 hour days through the week with late files everywhere ... they just want to screw up your weekends!!!!

  1. Companies schedule overtime based on the volume and flow of the workload. Unfortunately, the work hasn't been coming in and/or not being complete during the week. If the workload was being handled during the 8-hour daily schedule, then it all gets stacked up on the weekend - obviously company promised completion by the following Monday. Management isn't easy, but they always regret having to even PAY overtime in the first place. It's a delicate balance between employees working a bit harder or hiring new ones. It's nothing personal.

  2. The problem is there isn't enough staff to get it all done.

    1. So they keep trying to squeeze as much into your daily 8 until they find it can't be done by Friday. It sucks, but that's the nature of business, sometimes.
