Laffing My Butt Off ...

If you have had this procedure you'll have a hard time trying NOT to laugh:)

I had a colonoscopy about 2 years ago now, and it was nothing really, or was it? click here. ; I had dreaded it for months and I heard all the horror stories. Some people have a harder time with the prep than others, but it didn't bother me I was always full of it (so most said!ha) and getting a few extra pounds out/off was fine with me!

This is absolutely a hilarious read! Enjoy.

Dave Barry's colonoscopy journal:

I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an
appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy
showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go
all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis. Then
Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring
and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't really hear
anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, quote, 'HE'S GOING TO
STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!'

I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a prescription
for a product called 'MoviPrep', which comes in a box large enough to hold
a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in detail later; for now suffice
it to say that we must never allow it to fall into the hands of America's
enemies.

I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous.
Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my preparation. In
accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid food that day; all
I had was chicken broth, which is basically water, only with less flavor.
Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep. You mix two packets of powder
together in a one-liter plastic jug, and then you fill it with lukewarm
water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32
gallons.) Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour,
because MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat
spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.

The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a great
sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose watery bowel
movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you jump off
your roof, you may experience contact with the ground.

MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be too graphic, here,
but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty much the
MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you
wish the commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours pretty much
confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything.
And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink
another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your
bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not
even eaten yet.

After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next morning
my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only was I worried
about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return bouts of
MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?' How do you
apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough.

At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and
totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they led me to a
room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little
curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those hospital
garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you put it on,
makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked.

Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand.
Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I was already
lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in their MoviPrep.
At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this, but then I
pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to make it to the
bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose Mode. You would
have no choice but to burn your house.

When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room, where
Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I did not see the
17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere. I
was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll over on my left side,
and the anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in my
hand. There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the song was
'Dancing Queen' by Abba. I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that
could be playing during this particular procedure, 'Dancing Queen' has to
be the least appropriate.

'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me. 'Ha
ha,' I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading for
more than a decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am
going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.

I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, Abba was shrieking
'Dancing Queen! Feel the beat from the tambourine' and the next moment, I
was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood. Andy was
looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt excellent. I felt even
more excellent when Andy told me that it was all over, and that my colon
had passed with flying colors. I have never been prouder of an internal
organ.

On the subject of Colonoscopies...

Colonoscopies are no joke, but these comments during the exam were quite humorous..... A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies:

1. 'Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before!

2. 'Find Amelia Earhart yet?'

3. 'Can you hear me NOW?'

4. 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?'

5. 'You know, in Arkansas, we're now legally married.'

6. 'Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?'

7. 'You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out...'

8. 'Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!'

9. 'If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit!

10. 'Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity.'

11. 'You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?'

12. 'God, now I know why I am not gay.'

And the best one of all.

13. 'Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there?'

I haven't laughed this hard since last time! ha!

Another Blow...

What is today? Thurday? Ah yes, and tomorrow is Friday and we have an appt with a Ph.D. who was head of the Psychiatric Department at Marshall University, Dr. Linz, to get his opinion concerning my daughter and have an interview with us to sort out her psychiatric testing needs.

Anyway, the day before yesterday my daughter went to get the mail while I sitting here working around 1:30ish/2 p.m. and she said it had her name on it, so she opened it, only to realize that it was NOT her mail, but mail belonging to her father. I didn't see the actual mail before she opened it; she thought perhaps it was about her permit/license class. It is unfortunate that my daughter's name is Bobbi, as her father's name is Bobby, and this mail got inadvertently sent to her instead of her father. I suppose the uncle (who died in January) had told the post office that any mail with "Bobbi *****" be sent here instead. If somebody at the post office had really looked they would have discovered that the actual person it was addressed to was Bobby with a 'y' and not my daughter Bobbi (ending with an 'i). It was a document from the court about how he was released on property bond. I'm still in shock about him getting released on bond.

His lawyer, so I was told by my informant, found a loophole regarding his right to have a speedy trial, and since some evidence that the prosecution needed had not made it back more timely, his lawyer won the argument. I heard through the grapevine the Judge in this case was pretty upset about it, and also order that he be on home confinement with an ankle brace, which I feel was a good decision.

I was upset about this, however I had suspicions that she already knew, and she didn't seem that concerned he had been released on bond. I explained to her that there probably were stipulations on his release and he was not released from the actual charges, that he would be going on trial, and would appear back in court the 20th. I told her that there probably was a no contact order and that he more than likely would not call here and if so he would go directly back to jail, and if she called there she would send him back to jail. It is just not in her best interests at this point to talk to him, consider both she and I and her sister will probably be subpoenaed.

I figured that her stepsister had told her the day before (Monday) that her dad had been released. Bobbi did not need to know he was released on bond, either by somebody telling her or inadvertently, but oh well, what's done is done. I just didn't feel the need to burden her as she has been through enough these past few months. I just hope how soon it is over.

Another Twilight Zone Moment...of Adventures in Plumbing?

What are the odds that I would dial a wrong number and get a plumber on the other end, just what I needed! Amazing!

Yes, I had noticed that the valve controlling the water pressure in the house was leaking, so I was going to contact father-in-law again but I guess fate had other plans. Upon dialing my father-in-law's number, an unfamiliar voice answered, and I thought perhaps it was his son? Realizing that I obviously dialed a wrong number, I made a wisecrack about being just a gal in need of a plumber with a leaky temper, a nasty wet basement, and he laughed and said that he worked for a plumber! What are the chances of that happenin'! ha!

I said really? He asked me to look at it really close and tell him where the leak was, so I did and told him it looked to be where the "nut" was, and he told me all I needed to do was tighten up the nut and there would be no more leak. He was very sweet, even got another phone call on his house phone which he got off quickly in order to follow me to the basement. After I tightened it I had no more drip! Thanks whoever you were, you helped me tremendously. Before hanging up with this mystery plumber, I did ask him when I can afford a real plumber who should I call? Pipebusters? We laughed again, and he gave the name of the business he works for locally here which I immediately recognized. I will definitely call to thank him tomorrow at his work!

Hallelujah for small miracles!

My friend Susie calls and we talk about it. She was amazed! She said I don't know how you do it, but that I was a "strange" magnet ... I guess meaning that weird things, dejavu moments, and unexplained freaky things just happen to me, which I have to say most of the time turn out to be good. She said that perhaps I should have written his number down, but how can (I told her) when I don't know which number I dialed wrong? We laughed.

Yep, chalk this one up to another unexplained and freaky happening.

It's Been A Few Days Of ...

PhotobucketYep, just when you want somebody to choke there is nobody to pick on. I seriously wanted to choke that darn lawyer Tuesday morning for his lazy, slack-assed job in doing what I had asked him to do, but that is another whole rant right there for perhaps the Queen Mother Bitch Blogship!

Tonight I went back down to check the situation and realized that the valve inside the house was dripping water fairly briskly; you know the one you have to leave on to get water into the house. The more you turned the valve the more the water dripped from around it, even in the totally shut off position. At this point a few explicatives exploded~@!*! Don't you think father-in-law would have noticed it was leaking? good grief, there was quite a puddle building, not to mention adding to my gigantic water bill!

What's a gal to do? Call father-in-law again of course! however I guess I dialed a wrong number and some guy answered, I told him I obviously dialed a wrong number, making some wisecrack about being just a gal in need a plumber with a leaky temper, a nasty wet basement, and he laughed and said that he worked for a plumber! What are the chances of that happenin'! ha!

I said really? Anyway, he proceeded to ask me where it was leaking from and I said it looked to be where the "nut" was, and he told me all I needed to do was tighten up the nut! which I did and no more drip! YAY me! a quick DYI fix! Ain't I good??

By the way, I did not see any mold anywhere and I know this basement has been wet a few times obviously, sometimes the walls get a little wet even if it rains for days on end. However, it always seems to dry out quickly though with no real problems, which is going to be the case I think this time too!

Now, if was can keep the dam from bursting! Thank you guys for all your wonderful advice, however, but if you can't send a free handyman with unlimited resources what good are yuns!

DYI .... Do It Yourself~??@*#*$@*$@!!!!!!

PhotobucketA woman can do most of the 'DIY' projects by herself. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, girls!

That’s what you find out when you unexpectedly own a home and end up without family in the area to help you out, or a boyfriend/male friend whom you can contact in case of an emergency.

While a gal takes great pride in doing it herself...

...one should not attempt plumbing alone.

after all, there IS a reason they have professionals for that. What can I expect to pay a plumber to replace maybe a foot of pipe instead of the whole thing?

After trying to turn the valve inside the house to cut it off, I realized that it was gushing from the main located just outside the wall, and could even hear it upstairs gushing right at the wall under my livingroom floor! Yikes! So what's a gal to do?

Call 9-1-1 and dispatch the city to come turn off the main, of course! Yikes! We have sprung a leak!

As with most, I would say DYI it myself and roll up my sleeves, but the way I see it now, I have only 2 choices?:

CCC – curl up in a corner and cry (tried that for a couple of hours),
PSE – pay someone else (No! I can't! I just don't have the money right now and nobody to borrow from)

which puts me in quite a quandry, doesn't it?

The guy asked me if I had a shop-vac? I said nope, and that basement room has no drain, go figure! and the walls are wet as the pipe busted on the outside of the house about 2 feet when looking at the crawl space (standing on the ladder to inspect it), and was gushing over 14,000 gallons? How long was it running I wonder. I don't know I was working online at my job for two hours, good grief!

Holey Moley Mother of Hell ... that's all I need more stress!!!

What a frickin' mess!

Anybody willing to take in two house guests?

We're housebroken, don't eat too much, and the only requirement I have is that you have running water?!
